Aesthetic Fine Four-Light Chandelier with Longwy-Style Porcelain (868-A4L-CH)

868-A4L-CH  Aesthetic Fine Four-Light Chandelier with Longwy-Style Porcelain

The only American Aesthetic Design period (1870-95) re-created chandelier in existence with re-created French Longwy engraved Porcelain columns (after the manner of Mitchell Vance and Thackara of 1870+).

We are the specialist re-creators of early rococo American gas (1820-40) lighting in America.

Therefore, pride decided to tackle one of the most rare fixtures in our unique American history: Aesthetic lighting. Often termed Japanesque by appraisers and dealers, this Aesthetic design movement extended its influence to all home items and was considered a design finesse of the later 1870-95 Victorian period. One of the most sought after items were the chandeliers that used a French-ENGRAVED porcelain that did resemble the Asian porcelains of the time. This French company was Longwy. Because the porcelain takes many days to reproduce, you cannot get a true recreation easily or cheaply and never in quantity. The Aesthetic movement motto of “Art for Art’s Sake” is reflected in the slow and meticulous creation of these porcelains. It just does not lend itself to mass production. Hence: one at a time...and no two are exactly alike.

For a lighting maker, this means that you have to adjust each hand made metal part to fit each end of a hand made porcelain cylinder. The diameters are NOT the same. Each metal fitter must be carefully machined to fit each hand made porcelain item. Diameters differ—even the top from the bottom...heights vary slightly...a nightmare for manufacturing a “standard” recreation. So...if you must have a perfectly symmetrical chandelier with “cookie cutter parts”...as they say in New York...”forget about it”. But...if you love the Aesthetic movement and the total hand made lighting thereof...and want an outstanding TRUE style, custom machining recreation which causes knowledgeable folks to take deep breaths...then...this might be for you.

Measurements: This fine chandelier is 38” in diameter with the shades shown. As pictured, it is hanging at 54” to the bottom of the center finial but can be shortened to as much as 35”; but the center stem decor is eliminated at this shortest height.

The Crown Shades shown are correct for both style and the period. Unlike other lights that we make, these shades ARE included in the price.

Due to the hand made nature of this chandelier, they are built one at a time. Lead time is about 30 to 45 days from the date of the order.

Price: This fine, recreated, Aesthetic 4-arm Chandelier with shades…$7,500.00, plus crating and shipping fees.

*A second version of this fine chandelier will have SIX arms on the very same frame and in the very same format. The price for the six-arm chandelier, 869-A6L-CH, will be $ 9750.00 (shades will also be included).
