ANT-911 American Art Deco STREAMLINE Sconces by Virden
Cast 1939 Art Deco sconces signed that are in the Virden catalog #39 (i.e. 1939 as the catalog number reflected the year it was published.) These sconces were item 6001 from the Carleton Series and Virden bragged: “Underwriters Approved”.
The metal finish is pewter while the shades have that typical streamline concentric rings which are so very iconic streamline design and shade colors are all original and near mint.
There is a tiny roughness to the frames....but as cast and 1930s produced. It’s pretty plain in the pictures...not perfect...but nice antiques. Each sconce shows an additional hole that Virden did not plan. What the holes were for (?)...who knows....but commenserate with age and use. There is also a nick in one backplate-seen in the pictures. So...are these selling for top dollar (?)...no they aren’t ! We have deducted two-hundred from the price from the last pair sold (ANT-774). So...if you are a true antiquer...love the life that antiques have led with all their bumps and bruises, perhaps these might be yours with a savings too.
