ANT-851 American Art Deco 7-Light, 6-Shade, Stylux Chandelier by Lightolier
From the Art Deco period, two names for quality and design are well recognized by collectors: Lightolier and Consolidated Glass. With this fixture, we have the best of these two companies.
From Lightolier's 1933 catalog we have a lovely example of the Stylux model 2637 six-shade chandelier. It is supplied with seven sockets. This chandelier houses some of the finest shades that Consolidated glass made. They simply are works of art.
Lightolier made this model both as a long drop with chain that could be lengthened, and as a shorter drop for low ceiling applications. Here we have the long drop ceiling version. It was priced in the 1933 catalog, in the raging Depression, at $17.25. In our catalog, that 1933 price is crossed out and $20.25 is written in pencil. And it was the Depression! Right below this model, in the catalog, Lightolier states in BOLD letters: Quality never disappoints.
The 1933 catalog reports this finish as Antique Gold, and this is the original finish with this example. Naturally, the condition of the finish is commensurate with its age...but...hopefully the pictures will show that it is still pretty darn good. The 1933 catalog also states that the shades are Goldentone.
