ANT-809 Pair of Antique 1920s Wall Sconce Fixtures with Green End-of-Day Glass Shades
Lovely pair of circa 1920 wall sconces. Original antique backplates with nice end-of-day green Depression glass shades with bands of gold accent.
End-of-Day glass is glass that first began as the dregs from all the glass pots remaining at the end of the work day. These were lumped into one crucible, and multi-colored glass was blown. However...it became popular, and some companies actually made it on purpose to meet marketing demand. It is not known if this was true end-of-day glass...or...reacting to market desires end-of-day glass...but still, it's period and neat for this period.
These sconces have a formal Edwardian ambiance with a pewter look, but a more restrained backplate design that is so typical of the Edwardian design style. The metal is cast zinc and aluminum with a lovely pewter finish.
