ANT-681 Pair of Art Deco Slip Shade Wall Sconces by Markel
A nice pair of Art Deco sconces made by Markel Electric Products of Buffalo, New York in the mid 30s. In fact, these are illustrated in their 1933 catalog as Series 6400 (Markel did not use names to define their lighting...only numbers). These sconces were stock numbered 6401, and were described in the 1933 catalog as "Beautiful Old English Fixtures in Modern Design".
They are wonderfully cast, with a hammered backplate design in a pewter finish. There are some minor imperfections, which are not significant other than to show their history.
The shades are amber, and in good...remarkable...condition.
These sconces have been completely re-wired, in our UL shop, with new sockets and new rotary switches. Sockets can easily handle 100 watt incandescent bulbs.
