ANT-510 Very Collectable Art Deco Slip Shade 4 Light Chandelier by Globe
Globe Lighting Fixture Mfg Co. was located in Brooklyn, NY on 7th Avenue and 12th street. They were not as big as companies like Lincoln or Markel, but they did make some very interesting and uniquely different Art Deco lights....and now harder to find.
The elements are very Streamline Deco, and it must be admired that they even designed and made a step shade, which is so very hard to do when considering that it must be mated to a cast metal frame...and fit nicely within that metal frame. Another very nice touch to the design is the mica panels in between the shades showing through the reticulated metal work. There are mica panels both on the reticulated metal work rim, and down work. Simply a great Deco finishing touch, and original.
Step design being part of the Deco motif, this is a serious design accomplishment. We removed one shade to illustrate this step design both in the frame and shade. Very unique indeed. Most manufacturers left a bit of slop for the variations in castings that happens in the manufacturing process. Cannot obtain this allowance when doing a step shade, which makes quality control harder and more appreciated when it succeeds.
We have totally re-wired this collectable chandelier in our UL shop with medium base sockets and new supply wire. We suggest using a larger bulb for the bottom shade than for the slip shades. All sockets can handle up to 100 watts, however, we recommend no more than 60 to 65 watts incancdescent to protect the antique slip shades from heat. Cooler temperatures with greater light output can be achieved with energy efficient compact fluorescent or LED light bulbs.
