Two fine matching Streamline Art Deco chandeliers...Circa 1937-39 made by Mid-West Mnf. of “North” Kansas City, MO. We state this since Mid-West was the only maker who mixed solid brass and nickel components and made such excellent quality...of which...these chandeliers truly are!
Both are attractive chandeliers and an interesting historical development of the Mid-West Chandelier company. As we emerged from the Deco slip-shade era...manufacturers were scrambling for designs and yet...wary of the cost factors of the depression, they tried to use some designs already established. The stem and canopy of this nice chandelier was taken from their slip shade chandelier series and are known components.
And…maintaining Mid-West renowned quality, these fixtures are BRONZE and nickel-plated metals mixed together for a great quality presentation.
Bronze with nickel highlights finish was striking during the 30’s just as it is today. It is definitely a contrast that was part of the Art Deco streamline statement in lighting.
The shades too are worth mentioning since the quality of these is also…simply nice. Nice, striated, embossed sides with clear glass motifs and elements are just so nice. The color is a cream colored where it is not clear glass.
So typical after 80 odd years of use...there are some metal imperfections which are minor but need to be mentioned. Almost invisible when in use...but these are antiques and have been used so condition is commensurate with their age.
These chandeliers have been totally re-wired with new sockets and lead wires, in our UL shop, and are ready to go. We will even supply a UL crossbar mounting kit so you can have it hung-up in no time.
Nice original finish and shades. Places of the finish are a mite thin in place...like an old Persian carpet, with the minor metal is showing some of it’s 80 or so years, but this finish is considered “good” for this age of fixture.
We could have gone nuts polishing the nickel...but...some folks like the mellow-ness of antiques...so…we left it alone with its age.
It is so unusual to find a companion set like this. All matching shades...matching bronze frame fixtures...matching heights...all by a famous company who made quality...and re-wired in a UL shop.
