Art Deco Solid Bronze Sconces by Mid-West c.1935 (ANT-1352)

ANT-1352  Art Deco Solid Bronze Sconces by Mid-West c.1935

Mid-West was a top of the line manufacturer, who in their beginning only cast solid bronze lights that were exceedingly difficult due to their reticulated surfaces. Casting reticulations, as any casting man will tell you, is darn difficult. Casting material just doesn’t feed a reticulated casting fully unless the gating is extremely accurate and the skill very precise.

So...here we have a pair of top-of-the-line, near mint, sconces in solid bronze, ca.1935. Their “crackle-glass” shades are in very nice condition...even after all this time.

A bit of History:

A reference to Mid-West, talks about a board meeting held, during the Depression, where some members of the board argued to change their materials from bronze to a cheaper offerings since they were afraid that customers would not be available to purchase the higher end lighting that they created due to the financial downturn of the Depression. The Mid-West CEO/President denied the idea of substituting cheap materials and stated “there are always people with money”. While they did not stop casting fabulous bronze lights, they also added an aluminum line to compete with Lincoln Mnf. who was selling to Sears. Sears customers, during the Depression, would not normally come up to the pricing level of Bronze Materials. The CEO was correct. Mid-West survived the Depression and was sold a few years back to a large lighting conglomerate. (Information courtesy of the Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.)

Measurements: 15" tall with a width of also 6 1/2".  Protrudes a mere 5”.

We have re-wired these sconces to UL standards with new porcelain sockets in our UL reregistered shop. Each sconce has a rotary switch.

These sconces can be fitter with either incandescent or LED bulbs. We do not supply the bulbs. We suggest using lower heat emitting LEDā€ˆbulbs to protect the crackle glass shades.

So, these are ready to hang with a standard light mounting kit that we will supply.

Price: $1,500 for the pair with their crackle glass shades plus shipping charges.

These sconces are considered: “The Best of the Best” from Art Deco Americana manufacturers.

Right now...Ruby Lane has a dealer who is asking MORE than double our more than fair price.
