ANT-1296  Art Deco Sconces by Mid-West c.1950

Mid-West was a top of the line manufacturer, who in the 1930’s, only cast solid bronze lights that were exceedingly difficult due to their reticulated surfaces. Casting reticulations, as any casting man will tell you, is darn difficult. Casting material just doesn’t feed a reticulated casting fully unless the gating is extremely accurate and the skill very precise.

Mid-West survived the Great Depression and went on to change products and methods until they were bought up a few years ago.

We also know that Mid-West continued to make these particular sconces into the 1950’s and actually changed both the manufacturing method and offered a white metal version of their previous bronze sconces to hold down pricing. This pair of sconces is of that later manufacturing technique and are white metal with antique finish.

Now offered in a dark antique finish, these sconces do have the same crackle glass shades that were always offered. They are very striking sconces and that is probably the reason that this design had such a long manufacturing history. A very uncommon find at any age of manufacturing and…really…the quality is really there.

We have re-wired these sconces to UL standards with new sockets in our UL shop. Each sconce has a rotary switch just like the 30’s version.

So, these are ready to hang with a standard light mounting kit that we will supply.  

Measurements: 15" tall with a width of also 6 1/2". Protrudes a mere 5”.
