ANT-1266 Pair of Very Impressive French Large Sconces, Circa 1910-20+
These impressive antique wall statements are 20 1/2” tall. They are also 6 1/2” wide and will project into the room 10". Just the backplate measures 10 3/4” tall x 5 1/4” wide.
The quality of these sconces is really quite amazing. The castings are so VERY crisp you can tell that they were accomplished with the best of French molding sands...in solid brass/bronze.
The shade is heavy cut crystal in a ball shade which is rather hard to find. The makers thought it out and even drilled a tiny hole in the top of the ball shade to release the heat, from the light bulb, to prevent the shade from cracking. You will never see this tiny hole since the sconces will be mounted well above eye level. This heat release was created when big powerful bulbs were to be used to light these sconces. Nowadays, we can use LED bulbs that run much cooler than incandescent bulbs.
We completely re-wired these French sconces and removed the French sockets to convert them to our American bulbs and current. Since part of the wire is seen, we used period style rayon covered wire to complete the period look.
The mounting of these sconces is by that center decorative finial to a normal UL required electrical box with crossbar which we will supply.
We think these are an excellent choice for an area needing a significant pair of sconces.
Price: $2,250 for the complete pair with the shown CUT glass shades. Plus a shipping charge.
