ANT-1255 Art Deco 5-Shade Wide-Slip-Shade Chandelier by Markel
Antique Art Deco Slip Shade 5-shade Chandelier by Markel. This light, Circa 1936 (by catalog dating), was part of their "6600 line". This chandelier was Model 6625 which was best of the five lights for this 6600 series for a close ceiling fixture. Their 1936 catalog says it has a spread of 19". This model has a slightly different canopy (highly stylistic) and finial. Customization even then.
Wide shades came a bit later in the Deco era. Their purpose was to spread a more even light as light bulbs were getting more powerful. They wanted to reduce the “hot spot” generated by narrow slip shades.
Markel was one of the biggest companies working in the Great Depression and had locations in America and Canada and Australia. They made a lot of the antique slip shade fixtures that can be found in antique shops today. They were a quality company.
Cast white metal frame with the original gold highlights...finish. The finish, while being cleaned up “a mite“, is original and nice and mellow. It does show it’s age with the odd wear mark here and there, but, it is antique after all.
The shades are simply a treat and in good condition. One shade has a stress mark in the middle of the shade...but causes no harm...just is there. We have re-wired this neat chandelier in our UL shop.
Measurements: 24” in height and as mentioned 19” diameter. It will be supplied with a full mounting kit so just add the bulbs of your choice.
This fixture can be lengthened by extending the center pipe for an additional charge.
Price: $950.00, plus normal shipping charges.
