ANT-1221 Scarce 5-Light Brownish-Red Bronze Finished Chandelier by Virden c. 1934
John C. Virden, Cleveland...made this unusual chandelier in 1934 (appears in his Catalog of the same year).
This chandelier was top of the line of the “Kenilworth Line”. The variations in this line were considerable but this light was at the top. While the glass “looks” to be 10 pcs of glass...it is actually five pieces of glass. The amber and white are actually one piece of glass treated differently to give the two colors. While there is minor roughness to these scarce shades....nothing of major concern and all due to their age and use.
Virden extended the tail, of a normal sized shade, to form the extended bottom part of the shade that makes the bowl. Very unusual and deceiving to the eye.
The chandelier frame is cast iron which is finely cast. It has the orginal brownish-red bronze wash over it which does show antique variations here and there...which is in wonderful antique condition.
This Kenilworth chandelier has been completely re-wired in our UL shop with a new sockets and supply wire.
