ANT-1220 Pair of Unusual American Art Deco Slip Shade Sconces
Circa 1930-36, these sconces are truly Americana Art Deco but not able to be attributed to a special company. Known is...that they appear every once and awhile, but rarely, and the Art Deco Light museum has both ONE example of a chandelier and one sconce. The quality of the glass indicates a superior glass maker like Consolidated Glass. The shape is truly unique. Nice collectable sconces. (Courtesy Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.)
The backplates have a pewter, hi/lo finish and are quite nice. As with any hand crafted sand cast antique, the castings do vary a bit but these variations are not significant for antiques.
The Depression amber colored shades are embossed like carvings and the design is excellent with only minor antique wear.
Electrical: These sconces have been totally re-wired in our UL shop. Normal bakelite sockets for everyday medium base bulbs have been installed just like the originals. Noted is that these sconces have an unusual socket placement. Instead of changing the original position, we just used a smaller LED bulb as shown, and these bulbs will be supplied as pictured. A rotary on/off switch has been re-newed as well. The sconce mounts with one normal sconce mounting all-thread, hidden behind the light bulb, to a normal electrical box. All mounting hardware will be supplied.
A very nice pair of sconces.
Measurements: 12” tall. The shade has a maximum width of 5 3/4”. Projects into a room, from the wall, 5 1/2”.
Price: For the complete, UL re-wired pair of scarce sconces, $850.00 plus careful shipping.
