ANT-1129 Matched Pair (Nearly Perfectly) Art Deco 5 Shade Clam Shell Chandeliers by Mid-West
Art Deco Mid-West Streamline design five-shade Chandeliers with great Clam Shell Shades from the 1930s.
Mid-West was an outstanding company that survived the depression that took many out. They had a standard that they never lowered and the resulting work shows just that. They were clever too. They used this “clam shell” shade for two totally different lines. The first line catered to the Victorian tastes with curvilinear lines and motifs. The second line embraced the new Art Deco Streamline movement of which, these chandeliers are prime examples of their Streamline series. (Courtesy of the Kelly Art Deco Lighting Museum.)
These fine lights have mixed metal finishes of polished nickel metal contrasting with a very Dark Bronze finish and is, as the pictures do show, are in outstanding condition for their age. Of course there are rub marks here and there as with any antique...but very minor in the overall scheme of things.
The shades are simply fantastic. No damage at all and have extremely rich colors. These lights have a drop of 20 inches but they could also be lengthened by adding a little extra chain. They have a diameter of 18 1/2”.
These chandeliers were totally re-wired, in our UL shop, with new sockets and new lead wires.
Each slip shade socket can easily take a 100 watt bulb. We are also supplying the mounting brackets (crossbars) for these chandeliers, so literally, you can hang these lights and have them working minutes after receiving them. Really nice lights.
Now while there is a matched pair— at listing time, they are for sale individually. One could disappear and the chance to obtain a hard-to-find PAIR... might be gone.
Price: $950.00 (each chandelier) plus careful packing and shipping charges.
