ANT-60 Antique Art Deco Mid-West 5 Light Chandelier with Original Shades
Not every chandelier made during the Depression in Art Deco style was a slip shade light. This is a fine example of an Art Deco chandelier with its original glass shades, made by Mid-West manufacturing circa 1938.
The finish is totally original. Old original bronze with nickelplated accents. Mid-West was one of the only manufacturers that cast in bronze. The nickel plating can be cleaned up a little with 0000steel wool and a gentle metal polish, but, considering the nature and value of antiques, we just didnt want to do this before the final owner decided, IF, they wanted that done. We keep hearing on every antique TV show to leave original finishes alone and we have done this.
Since we are curators of the only American Art Deco Museum, (see www.thedecomuseum.com) we can tell you a bit about this light. It was made by a firm in Kansas City called Mid-West Chandelier Company. This light is circa 1938. Mid-West was a high quality company that survived the Great Depression quite well and was still in existance up to a few years ago when it was absorbed by Thomas Industries.
This fixture could be lengthened by adding morechain links.
The chandelier has been totally rewired with high grade porcelain sockets and new central lead wire. Each socket is capable of receiving a 100 watt bulb. Comes ready to hang and enjoy.
