It's a matter of personal taste whether you prefer the white, white & brown, or the amber shades with your fixture.  Just as we think of compact fluorescent lights as "glaring", many turn of the century homeowners preferred this amber shade to tone down incandescent bulbs after being accustomed to gaslight.

If you have an antique fixture that dates from 1928 - 1938, it may also be made of brass, zinc, or a mix of metals (potmetal).  And if you have a vintage sconce or chandelier, use our authentic reproductions for additional light fixtures. Our reproduction Art Deco fixtures are solid brass, available in polished yellow brass, antique brass finish, or nickel plated brass, making them better than the originals.

In order to match historical apperance some colored shades are made using a water based dye or paint. Clean with a soft dry cloth. Do not wet.
