583-DJX-GE Combination gas and electric fixtures were made at the turn of the century, and for as long as 20+ years thereafter. Electrical supplies were not always reliable in every location of America at this time. There were two main types of "up" gas fixture. One was a simple candle tube, and the other was a wide flame burner surrounded by a glass shade as appears here. Now the "up" lights provide great ambient light, while the "down" lights illuminate the surface, such as your countertop.
Fixture comes with bottom butterscotch glass (as shown), although green or white glass is also available. Use the menu above to select your glass color.
Glass "up" gas shades are sold separately. We picture frosted glass Mission shade 082G, but have many from which to choose.
Measurements:
-
Height: Supplied 44" tall, but can be shortened to as much as 29" by trimming the tube.
-
Spread: 25" (including shades)
-
Canopy Size: 4 ½" x 4 ½"; 3" deep.
For a longer drop (higher ceiling), use our Mission Extension Kit. For angled ceilings, use our Mission Style Vaulted Ceiling Kit.
Wattage:
-
Art Glass Shades: Recommend up to 60 watts per socket if using incandescent light bulbs. This is to protect the art glass from excess heat. Greater light output can be achieved by substituting cooler compact fluorescent or LED bulbs.
-
"Up" Shades: 100 watts each.
-
Total 320 watts of light.
Mix this pendant with our great little close ceiling light 415-MVCC-D1 , and add a large pendant over your game table or kitchen table. Put a nice lamp such as 101-MPL-SE to complete the suite.
These art glass shade holders are put together by hand; some slight imperfections may be noticed. This is how original Arts & Crafts fixtures were made.
