545-SJX-GE The late Victorian era had wider flame burners for gas, as seen by our 4" "up" glass shade fitter on this classic transitional lighting fixture. Electricity wasn't always reliable when it was introduced, however. Many fixtures offered both, and this is a particularly practical design.
This Diamond or "J" design originated with Sechrist of Colorado, between 1910 - 1920. In addition to Mission style homes, it looks great in Arts & Crafts, Bungalow, and contemporary homes. This would be a great hall light or bathroom light now, as it was then.
Our Mission fixtures are made of solid brass, darkened to aged patina finish.
The glass shade for the "up" or gas fixture is sold separately. We offer 27 styles of 4" glass shades, including a short and a tall version of our simple Mission style frosted shade shown here.
The "down" art glass shade is included in the purchase price. Use the "Options" menu above to select your favorite color of art glass. Although the sockets are rated for well over 100 watts, we recommend a limit of 60 - 75 watts incandescent to protect the valuable art glass from the heat. Turn of the century bulbs weren't available in the higher wattage, and thus, heat. If you are using Compact Fluorescent bulbs, or better yet, our LED bulbs, you may use a higher brightness, because these are cooler to the touch.
If you'd like to add an on/off switch to the mounting canopy, we offer custom installation of the switch for only $25.00. Please click the "Yes" option on the "Add Switch?" menu to add the switch to your cart.

Sockets are capable of handling up to 100 watts, however, we recommend limit of 60-75 watts for the "down" light if using incandescent bulbs...this will help to protect the fragile art glass.
Pictured here also are a few matching fixtures with the diamond design shade. All can have the glass in green, white, or butterscotch. 423-SPN-J1 is a Mission style pan ceiling light with two shades, adjustable to illuminate a kitchen counter or island. 280-MSG-HL is a delightful hall light, wonderful in an entryway. We offer a Mission Extension Kit for high ceilings. The 600-QJ1-GE chandelier is a transitional (gas & electric) style with 4" fitter "gas" lights. Ideal for most size rooms, it has eight lights. Use two for an oversize keeping room.
These art glass shade holders are put together by hand; some slight imperfections may be noticed. This is how original Arts & Crafts fixtures were made.
