As styles change & tastes change, we like different shades on our lamps and fixtures. Many of the older lights and lamps have small fitter rings for 2 ¼" glass shades. This product allows you to use a 4" fitter shade on that old fixture!
This adapter is made extra strong by casting it from solid brass (not stamped), so the strength & reliability are undeniable. We also gave this adapter four fitter screws instead of the normal three for increased stability and a more even mounting. After casting these adapters, they are lathe-turned to our exact specifications before polishing or finishing with our hand-applied patinas.
Cautions and concerns when using adapters:
1. Is your 2 ¼" fitter and lamp stem strong enough to take a larger shade?
2. If the proposed shade is enclosed, will heat be able to escape? You may need to vent heat off an incandescent bulb.
3. This adapter is not recommended when the metal socket has a clamp-on fitter, as the extra weight of a larger shade might pull it apart.
4. Sometimes using an adapter makes the bulb too deep in the shade. We offer socket extenders that may be stacked to put the bulb into the "best light" position in your new shade.

Outside Diameter: 4 3⁄16"
Inside Diameter: 4"
Overall Height: 15⁄16" (3⁄8" of that disappears into your 2¼" fitter, leaving 1⁄2" visible.
Center Hole (for socket): 1 ¾".
Fitter threads are 8/32".
